Our vineyard crew is back! 🐑

(and they're a little woollier than usual)

I’m cute and efficient. And I know it.” - Sheep

There's a moment every season we look forward to almost as much as harvest: the day our sheep come back to the vineyard.

It might be beyond of what you'd expect, but at Red Bird, our flock is part of the team. Each year, they move through the rows doing three jobs at once: grazing down the grass between the vines, naturally fertilizing the soil as they go, and nibbling away leaves around the fruit zone to open up airflow around the clusters. That airflow matters: it helps keep the fruit healthy and reduces the risk of disease, all without running extra machinery through the vineyard.

It's a small piece of our philosophy focused on integrated, low-impact vineyard management that leans on natural processes wherever we can, rather than defaulting to a tractor or a spray. The sheep are proof that sometimes the oldest tools are still the best ones.

Meet the crew!

We caught them in action and put together a short video so you can see the crew at work for yourself.

Keep an eye on our Instagram over the coming weeks for more behind-the-scenes moments as the flock settles back in. And if you'd like to see the vineyard (sheep included, depending on the day) in person, our patio and tasting room are open and waiting for you.
